A study by the Duke University Centre, studied 1 million Americans prior to undertaking their surgery. They found that patients with the lowest fitness and especially those who were overweight took longer to recover after surgery. Further they identified that personal fitness strengthens the lungs, heart and skeletal structure and hence improves recovery times.
